Conference themes

This bi-annual conference, which was first held at Oxford University, brings together researchers from around the world to share their research in the area of shared decision making in health care. The Freiburg conference builds on the accomplishments of the previous conferences, in Oxford (2001), Swansea (2003) and Ottawa (2005).

The conference will focus on the transfer of successful strategies to implement the model of shared decision making into health care. Specifically, strategies in different countries and cultures such as training of health professionals, education programs for patients and the development of patient decision aids are main areas of interest. In addition, work on theoretical aspects of SDM, criteria for assessment and evaluation methods will be discussed.

Associated themes

Exhibition: “Exchange of experiences across countries and health care systems

Being a part of the conference program this exhibition will create the outstanding opportunity to obtain an overview on developed materials from different countries for the implementation of SDM. It will take place in a hall with stands where different research groups from different countries will share their work on SDM in the form of e.g. booklets, training manuals and interactive video presentations. With the realization of this exhibition we hope to enhance the discussion of SDM with a focus on implementation and further development across countries and health care systems. Depending on submitted abstracts, the exhibition themes will be subdivided into specific category groups.
